VISIT: Illumina

On August 9th, we had a company tour to Illumina. Illumina is a leading developer, manufacturer, and marketer of life science tools and integrated systems for large-scale analysis of genetic variation and function. The mission of Illumina is to improve human health by unlocking the power of the genome. We were able to see their line of products and machines that analyze DNA up close and personal. An experience unlike any other!

We had an incredible tour guide, Paula, who is an international woman from Brazil. Paula has been working with Illumina for 6 years, and the students were amazed by all of her knowledge about the company, and impressed that she was able to answer many of their hard questions about landing a job at such an amazing company. Paula showed us the newer Illumina I3 building, and then took us on the company bus to the older building.

Illumina has developed systems that are enabling studies that were not even imaginable just a few years ago, and moving us closer to the realization of personalized medicine. With rapid advances in technology taking place, it is mission-critical to offer solutions that are not only innovative, but flexible, and scalable, with industry-leading support and service. The entire experience was amazing.
