Commencement Ceremony 2019
Dear SSU graduate, families and friends:
We look forward to sharing in the celebration of Southern States University’s Annual Commencement Exercises on Sunday, June 23, 2019, in San Diego.
We invite you to take part in this time-honored university tradition to commemorate the academic achievements of our SSU graduates – Class of 2019.
Commencement Ceremony
Location: Bahia Resort Hotel, 998 W Mission Bay Dr, San Diego, CA 92109
Date: Sunday, June 23, 2019.
SSU Commencement Ceremony Agenda
1:00 p.m. – Students must be at the Bahia Resort Hotel for Mandatory Rehearsal. (Students only)
2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. - Guests are welcome!
3:00 p.m. – The ceremony begins.
Tickets
Southern States University Ceremony does not require tickets.
Additional Information
The SSU Ceremony begins at 3:00 p.m. and ends at approximately 5:00 p.m.
Please remember that no graduates will be permitted to leave the ceremony until it has ended. All graduates must remain in the event for the entirety of the ceremony and recess out together.
As a matter of courtesy, no one will be allowed to enter the auditorium after the ceremony has begun.
Individual plans for celebration after the ceremony should be scheduled no earlier than 5:00 p.m.
SSU does not offer any complementary party or dinner after the Ceremony.
As a suggestion, dinner is available at Café Bahia after 5:30 p.m. Reservation is requested and the maximum party is up to 16 guests. To make a reservation, call (858) 539-7635. Drinks are available at Tangier Bar. For more information, call (858) 539-7645.
Parking
As the summer is approaching, traffic and parking around the Bahia Resort area can be challenging. Please plan to arrive early to avoid any delays and to ensure that you and your guests do not miss the start of the event!
Also, keep in mind Public Parking is complimentary for you and your guests in Ventura Cove, Gleason Road and Bonita Cove. The Bahia Resort Hotel does not offer parking for non-stay guests at the hotel. Carpooling and services such as Uber, Lyft, Taxi, etc. are HIGHLY recommended.
Policy on alcohol, other substances and behavior
All commencement activities are alcohol and substance-free events.
We will be enforcing a zero-tolerance policy which means students and guests should not attempt to bring alcohol and other substances to the ceremony.
Additionally, any student who is visibly intoxicated, disruptive, or exudes inappropriate behavior will be escorted out of the line-up or the ceremony by event staff and security.
SSU guest policies
Guests are also not allowed to bring backpacks, weapons, banners, horns or other noise makers, food or drinks inside the Hotel. Strollers and tripods must be left in the reserved lobby spaces and are not permitted in the seating area. Small purses are allowed.
During the ceremony, standing in the aisles and obstructing views is prohibited.
The seats are available on a first come/first serve basis so if your party is large and you want your guests to sit together please make sure they arrive early to secure a spot!

Please note: the event will be recorded for distribution through various social media outlets (including Facebook). All audience members attending the event agree to the possibility of appearing on these recordings at of attending the event.
